Check supportability before treating a used machine as production-ready
A used machine should be assessed for the task it will perform at your site, including the equipment and information needed to keep it running. Ask for the exact model, serial number, available manuals, known modifications and a list of supplied change parts. Where programmable controls are fitted, clarify whether current programme and parameter backups are available and whether the necessary access can be transferred.
Inspect the machine with the intended product or packaging wherever practicable. A powered demonstration can reveal operation, but it does not establish suitability for every format or replace the relevant safety checks. Confirm wear condition, missing components, guarding and any work needed before installation. HSE guidance makes clear that second-hand work equipment still has to be safe and accompanied by adequate information for safe use and maintenance.
